Bayonetta games are all about nonstop action, so stopping to search around for secrets can really get in the way of punching monsters in the face. Therefore, we’ve written this walkthrough to help you encounter every Verse and find every collectible while still minimizing backtracking. This page of IGN’s Bayonetta 3 Wiki Guide contains a complete walkthrough of Chapter 2 - City on Fire. You’ll encounter every verse and find all the Umbran Tears of Blood, Figure Boxes, Card Packs, Records, and other goodies along the way—but that’s not all! We’ve also included tips to help you earn all five Bewitchments as well!

At the start of Chapter 2, you’ll encounter Phantasmaraneae (for the remainder of the walkthrough we’ll refer to it as Phanny). Phanny will join you for this chapter as a temporary summon. These types of contracted summons will only stay around for certain events and cannot be swapped out or leveled up in the Skills tab. They come as is.

Phanny has the unique ability to climb up the sides of buildings. It also features a very useful web attack. Press R to shoot a short-distance web that can help trap and slow down any enemies. There’s even a Bewitchment, later on, that uses this feature, so be sure to practice using Phanny for the time being.

Look to the right side of the train tracks to discover the golden portal that initiates Verse 1.

Chapter 2 Verse 1

Angel fight! These are known as Beloveds. They are slow but wield huge and powerful axes. Their slow speed makes them a great enemy to practice your Witch Time skills on. They have the ability to create shields around themselves and will then burst their shields creating a shockwave that causes major stun damage. Use Phanny’s web attack to nullify their shields before they’re able to burst them.

Record

After completing Verse 1, turn toward the train station to find a Record next to the train platform.

Figure Box

Enter the train on the city side of the tracks to find a Figure Box inside.

Witch Heart Fragment

Standing on the train tracks and facing the city, you’ll see a large fire on your left—head that way! There’s a chest on the side of the building. Use Phanny to climb up and open the chest. This gets you a Witch Heart fragment.

Chapter 2 Verse 2

Once you approach the plaza, a cutscene triggers, and Verse 2 will begin. The new Lacunosus enemies are actually super weak. They fly around quickly but only take a couple of hits to eliminate completely. Phanny is great at area control with its web attack (press R). This traps enemies in a web and gives you some time to follow up with other attacks.

Bewitchment

After completing Verse 2, you can stand in the plaza and face the DFH screen. After a few seconds the show will come on. If this isn't triggering, find the round steps near the street and stand there. You need to make sure you don't destroy the DFH monitor before doing this.

Chapter 2 Verse 3

After completing Verse 2, look toward the left side of the area at the row of buildings and find the small one with the large square billboard on the roof. You can climb up the front of the building and find the portal to Verse 3 on the roof.

This is a challenge that requires using Phanny. You must defeat all enemies by first trapping them with a web (press R) and then using a fire attack (press A or X). Use these moves back to back to defeat all the enemies. You’ll earn a Moon Pearl fragment the first time you complete this challenge.

Witch Heart Fragment

After you’ve defeated all the enemies and completed Verse 3, head toward the plaza. This area contains plenty of cars you can beat up to gain ingredients and some chests with healing items. Next to the parking lot, you’ll find a special chest. Activate it to trigger a speed challenge. Pass through the five checkpoints before the time runs out to gain another Witch Heart fragment!

Umbran Tears of Blood Chapter 2 Crow

The Crow is perched on top of the small round building in the plaza. It’ll change direction depending on which way you approach it. We found it easiest to use the G-pillar and approach it from behind. As you approach it, charge your launch and you can intercept the bird as it begins to fly away.

Umbran Tears of Blood Chapter 2 Cat and Bewitchment

Near the Crow’s location is a parking lot with a large group of cats hanging out around the cars. Chase the cat with the glowing red thing! While you’re here you can also earn the Bewitchment: “Scare stray cats with Infernal Demons 3 times.”

Witch Heart Fragment

On the building next to the bird and cats, you can find a Scurrier hanging out a few floors up. Use Phanny to knock it out and gain another Witch Heart fragment.

Chapter 2 Verse 4

Let’s get back on track now. Head further into the city and you’ll spot a glowing relic next to a large group of flames. Activate the relic to make a lunar spot appear. Use Phanny to climb up the right building and destroy the large cube-shaped water tank to douse the flames and get through. Jump over the wreckage and eliminate the enemies to complete Verse 4.

Chapter 2 Verse 5

Go down the short street and you’ll find an alley on the left side containing a portal into Verse 5. For this challenge, you can only damage enemies while in Witch Time. Keep in mind you’re also racing against the clock; therefore, you’ll want to be dodging and activating Witch TIme constantly. Use your summons during Witch Time to do even more damage!

Rodin's Treasure

Heading down the large street you’ll find the portal to enter Rodin’s. Stop by if you wanna shop. In this chapter, Rodin is selling the Lofty Office Statue for 1500 Halos. Head up the next street. As soon as you step onto the area below, a big enemy will burst from the large screen.

Chapter 2 Verse 6

The Asperatus is a huge charging beast. Use Phanny’s web attack to halt it and then follow up with some big attacks while it’s stuck. Not only is this the best method of dealing with Asperatus, but you’ll also earn the Bewitchment: “Stop Aspertus with Massive Web 3 times.”

Chapter 2 Verse 7

This whole section requires riding Phanny around the crumbling city without getting overwhelmed by enemies and clouds. It can actually be extremely disorienting because of the way the camera shifts so suddenly each time to stick to the side of a building. Do your best to keep steady, and don’t bother wasting time on the small enemies that appear around you, the best this to do is use to trap them in a web and move on.

There is a Bewitchment: “Ride Phantasmaraneae without falling into any pits or clouds of erasure.” If you’re going after this Bewitchment and end up failing at any point (or getting caught by the clouds), you can press + and choose to return to the Title Screen. Once there, you can press continue, and you'll restart from the very beginning of Verse 7, allowing you to redo the entire thing again without any penalties.

To help you find your way, press the L-stick to reveal the waypoint. Head straight and the clouds will erase the building in front of you allowing you to jump over to the next one. However, the clouds are not on your side here. If you take too long to navigate through this portion, you’ll be consumed by them. Head right and follow the path between the two large buildings. Web the shooting enemy to avoid their fire.

Witch Heart Fragment

After passing them turn left. You’ll need to jump onto the large building and get on top of it.
Climb onto the top and keep going. There’s a golden chest on a helipad behind this building. Quickly open it to find a Witch Heart fragment.

Do a 180 from the chest and head directly toward the next wall with another helipad on it. It’ll look like you’re climbing into a cloud but this is actually the best way through.

When you make it over the side, you’ll see a curved highway in the distance—head that way. Use your web to trap enemies. Web and then destroy the large glowing trees as you progress across the highway.

Bewitchment

At the end of the highway are two more glowing trees; web and attack them to clear the path. This is also where you’ll receive the Bewitchment: “Take a specific path while riding Phantasmaraneae.”

Use the rubble on the left side of the highway to walk up and over. This will let you reach the final tree. Destroy it and jump onto the next highway.

Continue up the highway was things start getting warped. You’ll drop onto another set of buildings. The path will angle slightly to the left as you progress. New buildings and billboards will fall in front of you acting like stepping stones to help you get across.

After a brief quicktime event, you’ll end up in a parking garage. Head straight and the floors will collapse. Follow the collapsing path around the garage until you reach the very end. Say goodbye to Phanny because it’s time for walking on two feet again.

If you got through this all without failing, you’ll earn the Bewitchment: “Ride Phantasmaraneae without falling into any pits or clouds of erasure.”

When replaying Chapter 2, you can choose to start from here.

Figure Box

Look to the rumble from where you just came from. There is a relic on top of the Onix blocks. Bust it open to reveal a set of platforms. Follow them to find a Figure Box floating high above the area.

Umbran Tears of Blood Chapter 2 Toad

As you head toward the massive building, you’ll begin to hear the croaking. Turn left and walk behind the large boulder to find the toad familiar.

Chapter 2 Verse 8

Enter the plaza to begin Verse 8. Fight off the enemies, and remember that the jellyfish-looking Pannus just duplicate when attacked by your demon summons.

Twilight Wanderer - Strider

A new challenger appears near the end of Verse 8. The Strider may actually pose a challenge. It’s extremely fast, hits extremely hard, and is quite capable of dodging Bayonetta’s attacks. Additionally, it has the power to destroy your demons summons with one hit!

This is certainly the toughest battle in the game so far, but you can overcome it. The Bats Within skill will also help you out greatly here. It’s cheap, and you likely have enough Orbs to get it for this fight, if you haven't done so. This skill lets you absorb a hit and continue your combo.

advertisem*nt

The best strategy here is to use Witch Time, and then while in Witch Time, use your summon. This will let you get a few hits on Strider without them being able to kill your demons. As soon as Witch Time ends, press ZL to retreat the summon. Continue using this method, and you’ll eventually weaken Strider enough to activate the button prompt to punish.

After punishing Strider, the fight moves onto the side of the building. This half of the battle is basically the same. Continue your previous strategy and you’ll trigger the final cutscene. After a brief rampage through the Platinum Games offices, you’ll complete Verse 8 and reach the end of Chapter 2 - City on Fire.
