Wylie ISD Transportation is committed to providing safe, reliable, professional and efficient transportation service for our students.

Bus Drivers

Our bus drivers are highly-trained professionals who are tasked with safely operating buses, performing pre-and post-trip inspections, student behavior management and keeping buses clean.

In order to be considered for employment, individuals must but are not limited to:

  • be at least 24 years of age;
  • pass an annual physical examination;
  • obtain and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with all appropriate endorsem*nts and classifications and all other required licenses, permits and certificates;
  • have and maintain a satisfactory driving and criminal background as determined by the Texas Department of Public Safety that reflects a professional driver and which meets all contractual, local, state and federal requirements;
  • show negative on a pre-employment drug and alcohol test as well as be subject to random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing; and
  • have completed or be enrolled in the School Bus Driver Certification Course developed by the Texas Education Agency and the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Student Rider Eligibility

Wylie ISD board policy deems that in order for a student to receive transportation services, he or she must be eligible based on specific criteria determined by the school board. The board’s policy is in accordance with state and federal regulations for student transportation to ensure that students are served in a fair and equitable manner.

A student is deemedeligiblefor transportation if he or she meets at least one of the following criteria:

He or she…

  • Resides 2 or more miles from his/her home campus
  • Resides less than 2 miles from his/her home campus, but in an area that has been deemed hazardous by the school board.
  • Has been approved to receive special transportation by an IEP/ARD committee or identified as being homeless by the district liaison under the McKinney-Vento Act
  • Is enrolled in another district-specific program for which transportation is required due to specific program needs

A student isnot eligiblefor transportation if he or she falls into one of the categories below:

  • Is a transfer student
  • Is a student that lives within 2 miles of his/her home campus
  • Is a Pre-Kindergarten student

Here Comes the Bus

Here Comes the Bus is an easy-to-use website and mobile device app that enables parents to view the real-time location of their child’s school bus on a computer, tablet or smartphone. In addition, email alerts and push notifications help parents send their students to the bus stop at just the right time.

This application can be viewed on any smartphone (Apple iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, BlackBerry, etc.), by entering the student’s ID and an account number provided by the school district.

Getting Started

Getting started is easy! Simply visit the Here Comes the Bus website and use the Wylie ISD District Code: 29273. Create your parent account using the same email address that is in Skyward Family Access and you are done...your bus-riding students will automatically be associated with your account so you can track their bus.

Transportation requests for academic field trips or athletic events are scheduled through your campus secretary using InfoFinder software. Contact Jessie Murphy atjessie.murphy@wylieisd.netor 972.429.2316 for additional assistance.

On school days, buses are not available for campus trips until 9:00 AM and trips must end with students returned to the campus by 2:00 PM. Buses are available at any time, on request, for district coaches who are qualified to drive a bus in support of athletic events. Transportation drivers will not be available before 5:00 PM on school days to support evening athletic events. Requests for transportation support should be made at least 10 business days in advance.

Each campus is responsible for keeping a roster of students riding in each district vehicle during all trips. A copy of these rosters should be left at the campus during the trip and available for immediate use.

An adult chaperon from the requesting campus will ride on each district vehicle during all trips. The campus chaperon is responsible for maintaining order and discipline on the vehicle during the trip.

Campuses will be charged $4.00 per mile for use of a district bus with a driver from transportation. District coaches who are qualified to drive a bus can do so for athletic events only and will receive $40 per trip. No one is paid to drive a district Suburban and drivers are not provided. A $.75 per mile fee is charged for use of a Suburban.
