    DeChambeau -6 (17)

Bryson DeChambeau gets a huge ovation as he strides onto the final green - and rightly so after such a tremendous bunker shot, under a ton of pressure.

There's always one shot that defines a major victory, and the looks like it could be the one for Bryson.

    McIlroy -5 (69)

Rory McIlroy is stood anxiously watching Bryson DeChambeau.

That was just stunning from Bryson. Wow.

Ask any golfer what the hardest shot in golf is and they'll tell you it's a 40-50 yard bunker shot and he's done that on the last hole of the US Open.

  6. Magnificent!published at 23:36 16 June

    23:36 16 June

    DeChambeau -6 (17)

It's a 50-yard bunker shot for Bryson DeChambeau and he's played in beautifully - splashing it out and running it up the hill and across right towards the hole.

It's the shot of a champion - and if he knocks in this putt he will be.

  7. It's not over...published at 23:34 16 June

    23:34 16 June

    DeChambeau -6 (17)

So then, quick sit rep - Bryson DeChambeau is in the bunker a long way from the flag, and needs to get up and down in two to win the US Open.

Someone has to get into McIlroy's head and get him back in the zone. This isn't over. He looks crestfallen.

    23:33 16 June

    DeChambeau -6 (17)

Bryson DeChambeau just can't make his mind up on this one - and when he does pull the trigger it's a half swing and a chop out that scuttles across the fairway and into the front bunker.

  10. Troublepublished at 23:31 16 June

    23:31 16 June

    DeChambeau -6 (17)

Bryson DeChambeau is in a tough spot, he's on a load of bark, there's a tree root right by his ball and there's a huge branch on his head.

Maybe all is not lost for Rory McIlroy after all...

If DeChambeau knows McIlroy has just made a bogey will he just bunt it out?

Rory McIlroy with his par putt...

He's nudged it right. What. A. Miss.

The Northern Irishman has failed to knock in two tiddlers in the last three holes and finishes up with three bogeys in four holes. It could cost him a first major championship since 2014.

    Cantlay -4, McIlroy -6 (17)

Meanwhile Patrick Cantlay, muscles his way out of the wispy stuff and has a birdie putt up the hill from 25 feet. This isn't dropping but it's a gimme for par.

  13. Postpublished at 23:27 16 June

    23:27 16 June

    Cantlay -4, McIlroy -6 (17)

Rory McIlroy is chipping from the front edge. It's superbly judged and chases up the slope to three feet.

  14. Drive off linepublished at 23:27 16 June

    23:27 16 June

    DeChambeau -6 (17)

Bryson DeChambeau is never one to play it safe, so he pulls the big dog out of the bag on the 18th, even though at 449 yards there's no real need.

Especially with his habit of missing fairways, which he does again, and by some distance as he hooks his drive even further than the sandy native area and almost into the crowd.

  15. Postpublished at 23:25 16 June

    23:25 16 June

    Cantlay -4, McIlroy -6 (17)

Rory McIlroy can't push that through his ball squirts out of the rustic rough and runs on but stops short of the dance floor.

  16. Hit it Bryson!published at 23:23 16 June

    23:23 16 June

    DeChambeau -6 (17)

Bryson DeChambeau stalks his putt, looking up every angle before settling down to hit it.

It's bang on line again, but he's not hit it! The ball runs out of energy and dies just in front of the cup - and it's just a par.

  17. Postpublished at 23:23 16 June

    23:23 16 June

    Cantlay -4, McIlroy -6 (17)

How are Rory McIlroy's nerves? And what is the lie like down among the wiregrass and vegetation he finds himself in?

It looks okay but there is some horrible clumpy stuff in front of him.

  18. Postpublished at 23:20 16 June

Harry Diamond raking the sand, knowing Bryson was on the tee, and then Bryson whooping up the crowd on the 17th green, knowing Rory can hear. Some dark arts going on that you don't often see.

  19. McIlroy finds the roughpublished at 23:19 16 June

    23:19 16 June

    Cantlay -4, McIlroy -6 (17)

Talk about delicately poised. What Rory McIlroy would do for a birdie on the 18th?

He's hitting a driver, when he's hit a three-wood all week and finds the rough down the left. Oh my word.

It was likely a pitching wedge next regardless of club there.

Patrick Cantlay slings his tee shot right into the native area.
